A number of new Comic Relief grants have opened which look to help inequality in the community through sport.
Try for Change
Try for Change is a small grant scheme from Comic Relief whereby organisations are encouraged to promote sport and make a difference to the community via the means of rugby union. Comic Relief aim to target the hard to reach areas and socially excluded groups to not just increase participation in sport, but to develop these communities.
Try for Change is a small grant ranging from £2,500 to £10,000. Organisations require a Level 2 Rugby Union coach on board to be eligible.
This fund is perfect for rugby clubs who want to make a difference within their area, schools, and help recruit players.
As Comic Relief grants go, this is a very niche target. Partnering with the RFU, organisations and clubs are encouraged not to just promote rugby participation, but to make a positive difference to the community by using rugby as a tool for change.
Levelling the Field
Levelling the Field programme is aimed at making women more equal members of society. Many communities still deprive women of social and gender equality. This programme is encouraging organisations to partner with others to tackle this issue. Comic Relief are looking for organisations to:
– Reduce gender stereotypes that have a negative impact on women and girls – the use of realistic role models may be appropriate
– Increase social inclusion of women and girls – please note that proposals must focus on more than just bringing women and girls together
– Increase opportunities for women and girls to access education, employment and training – these may, or may not be within the sport industry
– Improve the leadership skills of women and girls – equipping women and girls with the skills to become leaders, in the setting appropriate to them
– Tackling violence against women and girls – enabling women and girls to live free from harm, and with access to crucial support
There is £1,000,000 in the pot with projects between £30,000 and £250,000.
Comic Relief grants are perfect for organisations who really want to make a difference to their communities.
